The 16th Maui Oceanfront Marathon

The regular Marathon starts at 5AM.  

The 4AM Marathon start  is for anyone who needs more time to finish before noon. 

This would be for walkers. Note: That the early start times will not be listed faster than 5:30.

2. Park in the North parking lot of the Shops at Wailea. 
3. Parking is free.
4. Sign up for the charter bus back from the finish line at packet pick up. Its $20.
5. Go throught the Shops to the south parking lot which is the start area.
6. The 4AM  start gives athletes up to 8 hours to finish.
7. If you do the 4AM start carry your own water until the aid stations open at 5AM.
8. Provide your own transportation to the start. 
9. There are no age division or overall awards for the 4AM starters. They will receive a finisher's medal, license plate, t-shirt and any other marathon goodies.
10. Free parking is available at the start line in The Shops at Wailea.  Park in the north parking lot and away from the Shops.
11. Directions to the Start Line: Go south to the end of the Pi'ilani Highway, turn right down the hill, right at the light and quick left into the North parking lot of The Shops at Wailea.  Portable toilets are at The Shops at Wailea. The start line is in the South parking lot of the Shops.
12. Best Bet: Have someone drop you off at The Shops at Wailea.  
13. After dropping off marathoners, one bus will take other event runners to Maalaea for their Half Marathon start. A post race  return  bus ticket to Wailea can be bought at number pick up  on Friday or Saturday at the Shops.
14. The clock is turned off at noon at the finish line.
15. Marathoners will have  a shuttle bus to the start line from  Ka'anapali Whalers Village.
16. Because of the early start, if you have a choice,  it would be best to stay in the Wailea or Kihei start line area.
17. The purpose of the early start is to get us all home early and give you a cooler run.
18. Wear a headlamp and a flashing light or two for the first hour or so, and reflective clothing.
19. Home Depot or your local hardware store have some cheap headband headlights you can buy.
20. You can also buy used lights for $5 at packet pick up if you are a c- student and forget to bring your own.
21. Except for the first 3.5 miles and the last 1.5 miles you will use the sidewalk, bike path, or shoulder of the road for the Marathon.
22. The start of the marathon is an out and back 1.25 miles to the south with the first aid station at the Shops of Wailea at the 2.5 mile mark when you return from the turn around point.
23. Runners will be using  street lights and their headlamp for the first 11.5 miles of the race.
24. First day light is about 6:30AM. You need a headlamp.
25. You may turn in your headlamp and flashers at the 8 or 10 mile aid station and they will be transported to the finish line for your pickup. Put yous name on them.  No name and we get keep them and sell them back to other c- runners next year.
26. The regular Marathon starts at 5 AM and the clock is turned off at noon giving you 7 hours to finish.
27. Start  times are:   4AM and 5AM. 
28. To "Win" the race you must start at 5PM with the other athletes out to win the race.
29. The course travels north from The Shops at Wailea, onto Wailea Alanui Drive (Shops at Wailea and Marriott Hotel)  and then proceed south (this is new) for 1.25 miles, turn around and head back to the start line.
30. Then north and then down Okolani and it turns into South Kihei Rd. then through oceanfront Kihei Town with a left turn onto  N. Kihei Rd at about mile 9, then a left turn onto Highway 30 at the 13 mile mark near  Ma'alaea Bay and continues oceanfront all the way to Launiupoko Beach area on H30.
31. With about 1.5 miles to go you will leave Highway 30 and run on the dirt for 50 yards back onto old Highway 30.
32. DO NOT GO UP HILL TO THE BYPASS.
33. As you get back on solid pavement again the rest of the way is closed two lanes to the finish line.
34. Right there you will  pass by a homeless camp right across from the  ocean. 
35. Most  of the course is on asphalt and the bike path part of the road.
36. The bike path is mostly between 4' to 8' wide. Some spots are wider, some narrower.
37. The ocean is constantly reclaiming the oceanfront highway as you will see.
38. The course has many scenic pull outs and public beaches along the course  for family and friends to park, picnic, watch whales  and support your run.
39. These are  competitive races with a finisher's medal, 5 year age division awards, a license plate frame to help celebrate (and brag to your friends), as well as a souvenir Maui Oceanfront event race shirt.
40. The mile marker signs on the course read "miles to go". The yellow paint  numbers on the road are MOM's. Any white or other colored numbers are from other local races.
41. You will get a HydraPak cup to carry with you the whole race for your water and gatorade AT THE START LINE. 
42. Don't forget to get one and don't throw it away or you will have to DRINK OUT OF CUPPED HANDS.
43. No paper one-use cups are on the course.
44. See the Time Line for race start time and shuttle bus schedule There is bus transportation from the Marathon start line in Wailea to the Half Marathon Start line. Traditional Hawaiian entertainment will be awaiting you along with your finisher's medal and snacks at the finish line at Launipoko Beach Park. Best bet for enjoying your race: have your support crew drop you off at the start line, and then park along the course for pictures, cheering, watching the whales, and then you take your support crew to one of the great Maui restaurants and  open air breakfast places after the race to enjoy your great finish and accomplishment. 
45. As you know, Lahaina is no more. There is no close by to the finish line places to eat. We are recruiting Food Trucks, but can not promise anything at this point. There are restaurants in Maalaea.
